The Image Canvas

The Image Canvas is the visible area which images and other objects such as text, shapes etc, are placed on. When you open an image, the canvas is hidden behind the image layer. However, if you are making an image which consists of a number of other images (for example, a combination of photos of different products), you may wish to alter the canvas properties which will be visable around the collection of image objects (layers)

Buttons which are used to control the canvas:

Canvas Properties

Fit / Trim Canvas size

Editing the canvas properties

Canvas Width and Height:

Allows a width and height in pixels to be entered. The canvas will be resized to these sizes. Note: This is not the same as resizing the image. This simply resizes the background canvas - the visible area.

Anchor point:

Clicking an anchir point allows you to control how the canvas will be resized. Clicking 'NW' for North-West, will ensure that the canvas is resizing downwards and to the right - anchoring all image objects present on the canvas before the resizing, to the North-West Corner of the existng canvas.

Background:

This radio box option, simply allows you to specify the canvas background colour. A transparent background will only work in GIF images - if this option is selected and the image is saved as another format, the image background will default to white.

If the color option is selected, a background colour can be selected by clicking the '...' button.

Fit / Trim the canvas size

This button instantly trims or fits the canvas width and height to fit perfectly around all objects currently on the canvas.

An example of when to use this button is after drag-resizing an image by 'click-dragging' the adjustment points around the image with the mouse.
